Today the world marks International Men's Day, and at JSR Communications we're glad to add our voice. International Men's Day (IMD) is observed every year on 19 November. It was founded in 1999 by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh of Trinidad and Tobago, and is now marked in more than 80 countries around the world.
The theme for International Men's Day 2018 is “Positive Male Role Models” — and it's a fitting one. The day is observed by people from all walks of life who share a common aim: to improve lives, heal scarred hearts, seek solutions to social problems, and help shape whole, grounded individuals. At its heart, it is about promoting positive role models and encouraging men to become the best version of themselves.
That kind of example is badly needed. Too many of our communities still carry the weight of distorted, outdated ideas, and the constant friction between men, women and children that frays the fabric of the family — and, in turn, of society itself. The day places a deliberate spotlight on positive role models, and on raising awareness of men's health and wellbeing. The movement encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of becoming a man.
So today, we join the global community in a simple challenge to the men of our nation: be a positive role model to the children and young people around you. They are watching — and they are learning from us.
JSR Communications observes International Men's Day 2018 alongside ProjectMEN2020. Theme: “Positive Male Role Models”.
