When Courts St. Vincent Limited decided to give back to the communities, three projects were launched.
Mrs Elizabeth Mars — a 62-year-old paralysed by a stroke who lives alone, supported only by church members and a small monthly Government pension of $250 — needed a kitchen upgrade, and Courts came to help. But when the team arrived, the scale of the need sparked the humanitarian side of Courts. The company went on to provide security locks, refurbished cupboards, a stove, a living-room set, replaced windows that had been secured with only a small piece of board, and refurbished the entire kitchen. Courts, along with co-volunteers JSR Communications — a new business and individual-support business in SVG — are now proposing to build steps up to her house and erect balusters for the safety of children. This project is estimated to cost EC$3,500.00.
Mr Gosnel Aberdeen and his family — a 50-year-old with two sons and a daughter who has six children, including an eight-month-old baby — does odd jobs to make a living while housed in extremely poor conditions, with no running water or bathroom. Alongside him is his common-law wife, Ms Gloria Rogers, who suffers from kidney problems and a UTI and is also unemployed. The family received attention from Courts.
In the village of Edinboro lives a young mother of triplets, Mrs Alicia Poyer, who became a first-time mother of three last year. The conditions in which she currently resides are less than desirable. She is presently not working and depends solely on the assistance of others. The details of her home are as follows:
– There is only a dirt track leading to her house.
– No street lights are present on the way to her home.
– To reach her house she has to use a ladder, as there are no stairs.
– As the children grow there is a need for proper security, as there are no balusters on the porch.
